We expected that some people might be a little critical of a premise that includes defying the US Government. What we didn’t expect is that people would not recognize that Free the Bear! is a novel, an artwork and NOT a manifesto for a secession movement. The Facebook page had exactly 8 comments on it when it was shut down. Three of the comments were reasonable people, one of which actually read the book and had positive things to say. The other five were increasingly nasty and completely without wit or any sense of humor. It was obvious that none of those commenters had read the book or were ever going to read much of anything. The feeling conveyed was that they felt then didn’t even have to read the book to condemn the premise and make threats. Come on people! It’s fiction! Try to restrain yourselves a little before you make a silly willy out of yourself! The writers have decided to take a cue from other writers of controversial subject matter and just not pay attention to negative comments. Life is too short to dwell and life in California, for all its flaws is worth it.
